Think About The Children

Children at Play SignAny time a court is to make a decision regarding children their top consideration is, "What is in the best interest of the child?" It is a great thing that the court never takes it's eye off of the ball when issues of such importance need to be decided - especially since what is in the best interest of the children doesn't always seem to be top of mind for arguing parents in a contested divorce. But it should be.

Divorce is hard. There is nothing easy about separating the family unit and starting over. Things have happened that have led to the ultimate dissolution of the marriage. However, do not let your animosity towards your soon to be ex-spouse cloud your judgement. Of course there is a time to fight to protect your rights and ensure the emotional and financial security of yourself and your children, however, there is also a time to recognize when you are really fighting for the sake of fighting, or simply to hurt the other side.

As you navigate the choppy waters of your divorce, never lose sight of what is most important - the children.

Jonathan T. Day is a Divorce & Family Law attorney serving the Jackson, Mississippi metro area. He would like to remind you to think of the children.
